Choosing Offsets
A PERC Webinar

Benefits, Challenges and Best Practices of Using Offsets as Part of your GHG reduction strategy.

PLUS, an addendum:
SEF conference scholarships

PERC’s working team on Climate Change and Sustainable Energy has developed a webinar that will help PERC schools to better understand the process of working with offsets.

The panelists will explore a number of issues regarding offsets: Are they all the same? What’s the best way to go about finding a source for the offsets your campus purchases? What are issues to be aware of? The panelists for this event bring a wide array of knowledge about offsets to the discussion.

Kenneth J. Davis, Penn State, University Park. Ken is Professor of Meteorology and Director, Northeastern Regional Center, National Institute for Climatic Change Research of the U.S. Department of Energy and Co-Chair, North American Carbon Program Science Steering Group. Ken will be discussing why carbon offsets create challenges from the standpoint of the carbon cycle.

Jennifer Andrews, Clean Air Cool Planet. Jennifer is Director of Program Planning for CA-CP, which is the leading nonprofit organization dedicated solely to finding and promoting solutions to global warming. She will share some useful ideas about navigating the process of selecting offsets.

Neil Leary, Dickinson College. Neil is the Director of the Center for Sustainability Education at Dickinson and will be speaking about his college’s experience with and lessons learned from using offsets

Time will be allotted for questions and answers after the panel presentations.

After the main Question and Answer, at approximately 2:50pm, Scott Lindsay, Program Leader, the Sustainable Energy Fund, will join us to explain the SEF scholarships offering this year.  In sum there are a number of Free Scholarships available to students and staff from PERC Member Schools.  The SEF EnergyPath 2012, held at the end of June, offers hands-on boot camps for students, faculty and staff to learn about sustainability as well as an end of the week, multi-track conference.  Take a group of students with you--or go alone.  Last year's scholarships were valued at $1500 each-to PERC Member Schools they are free. Find out more about this great experience at the end of this offsets webinar.

Call-in information will be emailed to participants at the time of registration. Space is limited so register now so you don’t miss this informative webinar!
