Just the Fracks, Ma'am: Fracking and Public Health

Thank you to all of you who have joined us for one or more of our previous webinars in our “Sustainability & Health: Partners by Nature” lunchtime colloquium series. We're pleased to invite you to register to join us for the autumnal return of this series with our webinar on Tuesday, October 20, at noon entitled "Just the Fracks, Ma'am: Fracking and Public Health."

Fracking -- the process of breaking apart underground shale rocks to capture natural gas -- has transformed Pennsylvania's energy economy. However, its development has not been without controversy, as communities weigh potential economic benefits with concerns about climate change, the release of greenhouse gases in natural gas production, and concerns about environmental and health impacts of fracking.

This lunchtime colloquium will focus on facts about the fracking process and related public health and climate research to allow for more informed consideration of the issues. Scheduled panelists include Tom Murphy, co-director of the Marcellus Center for Outreach and Research at Penn State; Brook Lenker, executive director of FracTracker; and Dr. Ned Ketyer, a pediatrician with the Southwest Pennsylvania Environmental Health Project.

Sign up to join us here and share any questions you would like our panel to try to address. Please share this announcement with any colleagues you think would be interested as well. The lunchtime colloquium, as always, is open to all.

We look forward to seeing you!
