2021 Campus Sustainability Champions

Call for Nominees

Deadline: Wednesday April 21, 2021 by 5:00 PM

Who are Campus Sustainability Champions?

PERC Member Schools are invited to nominate people from their campuses as Pennsylvania Environmental Resource Consortium Campus Sustainability Champions (CSC). The Campus Sustainability Champion title is awarded to students, faculty, administrators, and staff of Pennsylvania colleges and universities who have made meaningful contributions benefiting social, economic and/or environmental sustainability on their campus, in their community, or in society at large.  Contributions can be in areas of teaching, research, co-curricular programs, campus culture, community service, and campus operations, including food recovery.

What are the nomination categories?

Each PERC Member School may make up to four total nominations, two in each of the following categories:

 (i)         Student

(ii)      Non-student

Nominations in either category can be for an individual or for a group.  Nomination of a group that includes students and non-students should be made in the non-student category, unless the group is led predominantly by students.

Schools with multiple campuses may submit additional nominations - please contact the PERC associate director for further details at associatedirector@pagreencolleges.org.

Who submits the nominations?

Nominations are submitted by your school’s PERC representative. To find out who is your school’s representative, visit pagreencolleges.org/reps.

How are nominations submitted?

PERC representatives may submit nominations by completing the Student Nomination Form and/or the Faculty, Staff or Administrator Nomination Form.

What information is needed for the nomination?

Specific information requested includes:

  • Email address and phone of the nominee(s)

  • A 250-word description of the individual or group, explaining why the nominee is deserving of recognition as a PERC Campus Sustainability Champion.

  • The nominating paragraphs will be posted on the PERC website, so please write in a style and with language suitable for a general audience.

You may look at PERC’s website to see the list of prior Campus Sustainability Champions.

Who makes the selections?

The PERC Executive Committee will select CSCs from among the nominees submitted by the school’s PERC Representative.

How are awardees recognized?

Awardees are normally invited to the annual PERC conference, however due to Covid safety measures, there is no conference this year.  Instead, we will be hosting a virtual award ceremony as part of an evening PERC event on May 4. Awardees will receive a certificate, and their accomplishments will be celebrated on our website.

When are nominations due?

Nominations must be received by Monday, April 19, 2021 5:00 PM.  Champion Awardees will be notified a week in advance of the award ceremony and asked to provide a PPT slide with photo(s), their names, and short description or title of the project which can be used at the awards ceremony in announcing the winners.
