PERC Member Event: Community Forum: Erie’s Needs for a Healthy Built Environment

Earth Day, Monday, April 22, 7 p.m., Taylor Little Theater – Community Forum and Speaker: starts with a panel discussion of civic leaders led by Erie County Department of Health Director, Andy Glass:

  • Ben Pratt, Dir of Research, Erie Regional Chamber & Growth Partnership developing livability within the Comprehensive Plan for Erie County and the northwest region.
  • Eric Brozell, Bicycle Erie coalition member, advocating for a bicycle-friendly community and bicycle tourism.
  • Kim Beers, BS, CHES, Erie County Dept. of Health, Safe and Healthy Communities Coordinator for projects like Safe Routes to School, ErieWalks, and Let’s Move Outside.
  • John Morgan, AICP, Erie County Dept. of Planning Program Administrator for all Erie County Transportation programs and also the Secretary of the Erie Metropolitan Planning Organization, including bike/pedestrian transportation initiatives.
  • Brenda Sandberg, Director, City of Erie Dept. of Community & Economic Development and

former County Planner, City of Erie Zoning Administrator, and Executive Director of the Downtown Partnership.

The built environment forum continues with Nancy Huehnergarth, Director of the New York State Healthy Eating and Physical Activity Alliance, Creating a Healthy Environment: Lessons from New York. She will discuss New York models to make neighborhoods and cities more safe and healthy, including streets, parks, homes, workplaces and restaurants. She has been involved in New York City’s planned ban on large-sized sugary drinks.
